When we started sourcing fabric for the first Vault Wave Mind Grid collection in 2018, we tested fabrics from six mills. Eurojersey in Milan was the last one we tried and the one we chose. The difference was not immediately obvious in the hand. It became obvious after six months of wear testing.

What Sensitive Fabrics means

Sensitive Fabrics is Eurojersey's certification for fabrics that have been tested for skin compatibility. The testing covers pH levels, the absence of harmful substances, and resistance to chlorine and salt water. For swimwear, the chlorine resistance is the most practically significant: standard Lycra begins to degrade after repeated chlorine exposure, losing elasticity and colour. Eurojersey's Sensitive Fabrics Lycra is tested to retain its properties through significantly more wash and wear cycles.

The weight and drape difference

Eurojersey fabrics have a slightly higher weight per square metre than many competing swimwear fabrics. This is not a disadvantage. Heavier fabric drapes more cleanly, holds its shape better when wet, and does not become transparent when stretched. The Shio Bikini Top and the Nami High-Waist Brief are both cut in a 200gsm Eurojersey Lycra. The weight is part of why they look the way they do in the water.

Why we pair it with the Nishijin silk-blend lining

The Eurojersey outer shell is the structure of the piece. The Nishijin silk-blend lining is what sits against the skin. Standard swimwear lining is a thin nylon tricot that can feel tacky against the skin, especially in heat. The silk-blend lining from the Nishijin mill in Kyoto has a natural temperature-regulating quality and a smoothness that makes the piece comfortable to wear for a full day. The combination of the two fabrics is the reason the Hana One-Piece has been in every collection since 2019.

Care implications

Eurojersey Sensitive Fabrics Lycra is more durable than standard swimwear fabric, but it still requires proper care. Rinse in cold fresh water immediately after use. Hand-wash with a gentle detergent. Dry flat, out of direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry. These instructions apply to all Vault Wave Mind Grid swimwear pieces.
