Haruka Nishimoto started Vault Wave Mind Grid in 2019 after seven years working as a pattern-maker for a mid-size lingerie manufacturer in Osaka. She was good at the job. She was also tired of watching beautiful fabrics get cut into pieces that fit no one particularly well, then shipped in quantities that guaranteed a third of them would end up on a markdown rail. She moved to Tokyo in late 2018, rented a small studio in Minami-Aoyama, and spent six months making samples before she sold a single thing.
The first collection, released in April 2019, was twelve pieces: four bra styles, three brief cuts, and five swimwear separates. She sold them through a single pop-up at a friend's gallery in Daikanyama over one weekend. Everything sold. She did not immediately scale up. Instead, she spent the following year refining the fit, sourcing better elastic from a supplier in Lyon, and finding the Nishijin mill that now provides her silk-blend lining fabric. The second collection, in April 2020, was fifteen pieces. The third was eighteen. The number grows slowly, deliberately.
Today Vault Wave Mind Grid operates from a small atelier and showroom at 3-5-12 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo. The team is six people. Haruka still cuts the first sample of every new style herself. The collection is available online and by appointment at the atelier. Wholesale inquiries are considered once a year, in November, and the answer is usually no. That is not a policy designed to seem exclusive. It is a policy designed to keep the work honest.

How to Care for Silk-Blend Swimwear at Home
Most swimwear is made to be rinsed and forgotten. The fabrics in the Vault Wave Mind Grid collection are not most swimwear. - Italian Lycra and Japanese silk-blend fabrics
- We source our primary swimwear fabric from Eurojersey in Milan and our silk-blend linings from a small mill in Nishijin, Kyoto. The combination gives each piece a weight and drape that synthetic-only fabrics cannot replicate.
- Small-run production in Tokyo
- Every garment is cut and sewn at our atelier in Minami-Aoyama. We work with a team of four pattern-makers and two senior seamstresses who have been with us since 2020.
- Considered sizing
- We offer sizes XS through XL in all styles, with a half-size bra cup option in our lingerie range. Fit notes are written by Haruka Nishimoto herself, based on fit sessions with twelve women of different builds.

Haruka Nishimoto
Haruka Nishimoto trained as a pattern-maker at Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, graduating in 2011. She spent the following seven years at Maison Lune, a mid-size lingerie manufacturer in Osaka, where she led the fit development team from 2015. In 2018 she left to start Vault Wave Mind Grid, spending six months in a rented Minami-Aoyama studio making samples before the first collection launched at a Daikanyama gallery pop-up in April 2019. She has collaborated with photographer Rie Yoshida on all campaign imagery since 2020. On Sundays she tends a small balcony garden of peonies and sweet peas, which is where the name came from.
Common questions
How do I know what size to order?
Each product page has a fit note written by Haruka Nishimoto, based on fit sessions with twelve women of different builds. We also include a measurement guide that tells you exactly where to measure and how to interpret the result. If you are between sizes, the fit notes will tell you which way to go for that specific style. If you are still unsure, book a fitting appointment at the atelier.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We ship to most countries via Japan Post EMS. Delivery to Europe and North America typically takes five to ten business days. Import duties are the responsibility of the customer and vary by country. We declare the full purchase value on customs forms and do not mark items as gifts.
Can I return or exchange a piece?
We accept returns within fourteen days of delivery, provided the piece is unworn, unwashed, and has its original tags attached. Swimwear with the hygiene liner removed cannot be returned. Exchanges are processed within five working days of receiving the returned item. Return shipping costs are the customer's responsibility unless the item arrived damaged or incorrect.
How do I care for the fabrics?
Swimwear should be hand-washed in cold water with a gentle detergent immediately after use, especially after contact with chlorine or salt water. Lay flat to dry, away from direct sunlight. The silk-blend lingerie pieces should be hand-washed or placed in a mesh bag on a delicate machine cycle at 30 degrees. Do not tumble dry any Vault Wave Mind Grid piece.
